camera armour

Has anyone heard of this recently,it seemed like a good idea, if expensive, but I had worries that it might compromise the cooling system of the camera.

Re: camera armour

It`s been around for a while

Other links indicate it`s in the £20s for most dSLRs

with exceptions!

Useful if you shoot in lots of adverse weather conditions I supose.

I had assumed that the engineering would take account of heat, and heat dissipation, silly me.

I purchased a 1Ds Mk. II in June and it came complete with body armour. I haven't tried to fit it yet but if I'm ever out in the rain, I will. It does look a bit cumbersome though.

Dave,

Off the top of my head, it's about 2mm at its thickest, decreasing for the control buttons, etc. So, it's not flimsy like the thinnest latex.

Why would anyone want to buy armour for a pro spec DSLR, they are designed to be used in all weathers not dressed up and posed with like a toy dog in a handbag

Errrrr, apart from the fact that it was supplied with the body, there's always the consideration of bumps, scrapes, drops, etc. What's wrong with taking good care of one's equipment?

All I am saying Bawbee is that it (1ds)is a tool that is designed to be used in all weathers, you do not need to equip it with an overcoat.
Nothing wrong with looking after your gear, I just think that the OP would get more return spending the money on say petrol getting to location or a lens hood.
In my opinion it can join 'protection' filters in room 101.

It might be useful for preventing scratches etc and thus preserving the camera's value if you wish to sell in future to fund an upgrade

I'm scratching my head to think of a non MF upgrade to a 1Ds?

-> Mk III, etc, etc by the 'must have the latest' brigade - I think Bawbee might have bought his Mk II second hand as the Mk III appeared in June 2008, two years before his purchase.

Steve,

Oh yes it was a used item, from MPB Photographic, <2000 actuations and, as I said, the body armour came with the package. As I also said, I haven't tried to fit it yet and it is a bit cumbersome and I can't see me trying too hard.

Still, if I want to take care of my 'wee lapdog in my handbag', I will. Besides, I've never got on well with rubber protectors

Can't think of an upgrade? It's called a NIkon, Phil.
