    Location in or around Leeds

Hi all, I am looking for locations round Leeds (West Yorkshire) to try out my new Cannon EOS D50. I have not used a SLR / DSLR before, just my old digital Cannon. So want to take it out for a spin

    Regards

    Wayne

    Three questions first:
What kind of photography interests you?
How far are you prepared to travel?
Do you drive or are you restricted to public transport?

    Welcome to the forum.

However re your question. How on earth can anyone help? You give no details in your bio........it's a blank canvas. I presume you live in the Leeds area so what do you do, walk round with your eyes shut? A Canon DSLR is no different to any other camera, seems to me you need to start looking at your surroundings.

Let's see if we can help. I went to Leeds University - what do I remember? Kirkstall Abbey is very accessible by bus and photogenic. I spent a lot of time photographing old back to back houses in that area - showing my age, as they've probably all gone. Middleton Railway in Hunslet is also easy to reach by bus and good fun- I think weekends only, but steam worked. The canal used to be full of character, but all tarted up now. Leeds City Hall (Cuthbert Brodrick Architect) is fantastic Victorian municipal architecture. Lot of beautiful girls - don't be shy about asking them if you can take a picture!

If you can go beyond the city, the Yorkshire Dales beckon with great landscapes.

If you can't take decent pictures around Leeds, you aren't trying!

    1) well said above hole heartedly agree, I can add temple Newsam and Lotherton hall to the list as well as the many other parks in the leeds area.
    2) For fear of repeating my last rant lets hope the poster does come back and is not scared off by the person above who i responded to

Wow, for a website named amateur photographer that is one of the most arrogant and unhelpful responces I have had the misforune to read.

I would be intrigued to know why you might think that. Robust to the point of rudeness, perhaps, but how "arrogant"? And even more so, how "unhelpful"? One of the key photographic skills is to be able to see a shot, and there is no shortage of subjects anywhere in Leeds, for sure. In actual fact, it's probably the most helpful advice imaginable once you look past the bluntness.

Blunt and to the point, like the people. I am from Leeds myself and have been known to call a spade a 'bloody shovel'.
