ladies camera bags

I wouldn't say I'm a girlie girl but I often long for a more feminine camera bag, with style and practicality. The only ones I've seen are from America I think..Jill-e bags. They look great but the prices are way out of my league. A bag you could still go into town with after shooting and keep the phone and purse and other 'girlie'bits and pieces in as well as the camera gear (I never leave my kit in the car, ever).With so many female togs why haven't the main camera bag/rucksack suppliers ignored us. The closest I've seen to a less 'butch'type bag in the UK looks like an old codgers bowling bag in bright red! No thanks.

Mrs Heelis keeps asking me to write to Radley and suggest the make camera bags, she does have a Radley bag that she keeps her D40 in but it's not really practical.

Was in my local camera shop recently and they had some made by Hama but looking at the site it seems they may be more geared towards laptops, I suppose you'd have to find somewhere that stocked them and have a good look.

Have you looked at the Billingham range? They're a bit different to those commonly available.

the classic billingham is closer but it's even more expensive than jill-e. Some manufacturer could be onto a nice little earner if they dared to supply a much neglected corner of the photography market.

I abhor camera bags but this could be an exception. Why should girls have all the fun? Not pink though, very light blue to match my eyes would be nice.

update: necessity is the mother of invention or something like that - I compromised and improvised :-).
Killing time in the tesco 'fashion' section while the rest of family did their shopping I had a look at their cheap plastic handbags. I squeezed and prodded and punched them all till I found one that passed the test (when I took all the paper stuffing out). Black (unfortunately..but never mind)made from semi rigid sturdy type plastic with a nice thick padded bottom. Top zip that opens all the way to nearly the sides. Inner pockets, modern design outside and fashionable handbag straps. Enough room inside for a D80 (which is currently at the camera hospital)with lens attached plus room for extra lens + batteries, cards, purse, phone, sunglasses etc. Got home lined the bottom and sides with foam and it does the job and all for a fiver!

I got one of Dose Bags and der grrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaate .. a few trips to Europe:
one (trip) w/ a SLR, three (3)primes (20/35/90), a 2X and a flash The
other trip was a SLR w/a 28-200, 20, 2X and a flash .... now, if there was only
room for a laptop

One of my best buys is a backpack that will take a camera and one extra lens ... it's actualy a £5 plain black baby changing bag; it's nicely padded with a drawstring top and fold-over flap and has 2 external pockets, probably designed for feeding bottles but they work just as well for drinks/water bottles. the small changing mat that folds up to fit inside makes an excellent second layer of padding for a camera !
