    TV cooks

Have you noticed how the latest crop of seleb chefs pretend there is an art? to preparing grub. They appear to see their creations with those of Mozart and other great artists.Don't they know where it ends, yes thats right the craphouse.I wouldn't care except that most of em get their mad saleries out of the licence fee.I will resist the temptation to rant about the nepotistic, free loading BBC.If the licence fee were abolished,99% of the feather-bedded employees of the BBC would be looking for work, and they would not find it,and I havn't mentioned J.Woss, who is paid 12Mil for having a speech impediment.

Oh dear....Are we having a bit of a bad hair day...??

Mr Ross may not be worth the £££'s, but a bit unkind to suggest it's because of a speech impediment. More than likely it's because he can talk for hours about absolute drivel.

Oh yeah, lets get rid of the BBC and we can look forward to broadcasts dominated by "Talk Sport" and their ilk! Jpoy oh joy!

Though I agree they should be broadcasting stuff which is a little more intellectual than "Do My Garden for A Big Profit",
    or whatever

Do you mind the last thing I want to do is watch crap commerical tv with annoying pointless adverts every 5 mins and yank cop shows where the language they speak hardly resembles anything intelligent, let alone English.

Yeah cookery programmes suck. Let's also dispense with:

garden makeovers, home makeovers, personal makeovers, soaps (all too miserable), movies that we have all seen a hundred times before, documentaries (75% waffle and padding and drowned out by inappropriate music), any sport involving overpaid competitors and yobs who break the rules and then complain when they get caught, talent shows (on the basis that they generally display a conspicuous lack of it), anything which has a title that includes the word celebrity, all talk shows (unless you can persuade Parky to come out of retirement) and finally all news and current affairs (I mean who needs it!)

That should leave just about enough for an hour of quality TV per day.

    Re: TV cooks

Seriously, I watched an episode of "Masterchef" for the first time the other night and I actually quite enjoyed it.

On the other hand, a series I thought I would really like "History of the World in 100 Objects" on R4 failed to interest me. I'm not sure why this was the case either.

Only the BBC would have the brilliant idea of having 100 objects described on RADIO,when we could have seen them on TV.I do not want to get rid of the BBC, just halve the licence fee, and have an (unpaid) panel fix the salaries of the execs. and "talent".Disc jocks get paid so much of OUR money, they can buy estates that rival the original landed scum

    Re: TV cooks

The BBC exists to provide quality programmes which don't rely on popularity to be made and thereby avoiding the type of rubbish which seems to dominate American TV. At the same time they need talented performers to appear.

I reckon they do a pretty good job in many respects. However, I would rather see them being less populist and risking losing viewing figures and if they wanted a bit more in the licence fee to do it I wouldn't object.

As you say; so where precisely does most of the output of BBC1 fall into this category? Most of the Beeb's decent telly is now on BBC4 frankly.

As long as Jeremy Kyle and Jerry Spginer are still around, I'd be happy.

Oh. and CSI and my new favourite one, 'True Blood'

Not very keen on cookery programmes, at least not Masterchef as I always think they go waaaaaaaay over the top when talking about food.

'Yes - I see what you mean, I can taste the hint of rasberries and feel it goes well with the coolness and sweetness of the cream. Not too sharp either, the swirls compliment each other and invite the person to eat it'

    Eh? It's rasberry ripple icecream?!?!?!

Agreed. Hence my comments that I would be happy to pay more for a less populist schedule. Even given the shortcomings of BBC1 and much of the dross appearing on BBC3 I would argue that the BBC provides very good value and quite a bit of quality too.

BBC4 is indeed an excellent channel. BBC2 is often worthwhile, though and don't forget R3 and R4 which provide exactly the sort of programming the licence fee system should promote.
