If I had all the money I've spent on drink, I'd spend it on drink
Very interesting. I think Pentax are going to be around for quite a while, which is good news for us the dslr users too. Let's hope this MF body sells well.

Thanks for posting, very interesting indeed - presumably the price of Pentax 645 glass is about to leap upwards!
I was impressed by the answers provided in the interview, they appear to have thought of all of the key issues.
Best of luck to them!
Thanks Tim .. a very interesting and informative pieceRegarding my Whoops??, in the
subject line:
I think that whilst I like the "honesty" of the Pentax spokesperson (in the interview) I think one of
responses may not have been "ideal" in a marketing aspect. The response is the following one:
I think, because he mentions the "usability and desirability of Live View" but then goes on to mentionsWell, we recognize the value of live view as a tool. We would have loved to make it available in the 645D, but the Kodak CCD sensor that we have selected, just like all the other MF sensors available today for that matter, do not currently enable Live view. We hope that possible future CMOS based MF sensors would be able to lift this limitation.
that the (CCD) sensor they chose does not "enable/support" Live View but that future CMOS MF sensors would be able to support "Live View". This statement say to me, IMVHO, that they are
looking down the road and why would/should MF Digital photogs want to spend "X amount of money"
on a camera that will not support a tool they want/desire/use (now) ..when they can wait (and save their money) and (hopefully) pick up a camera down the road that will (again hopefully) have (more of)
the tools that they want to utilise.

A fair point Jack. So far as I'm aware there are no CMOS sensors of "medium format" size. Whether one will appear eventually may depend on a level of demand for Live View in such beasts from existing (and putative) users.
It is of course the case that all such cameras can be, and often are, used tethered. Viewing an image on a decent laptop screen will beat out any current Live View for IQ I would presume.![]()

Hi Tim,
Well to allow my ignorance to surface, yet again, I wasn't even
aware that there weren't any CMOS sensors to Medium format
digi's. I just reckoned that because they are (allegedly) so
superior to the CCD sensors they would be (pretty much) every-
where.
As for the LiveView and tethering, I know that way back in the old
days (Sept 2002 to Dec 2004)my Canon G2 had the capability
but I only used the LiveView (and usually when using the flip screen)
As for Tethering, well above my IQ level
Cheers,
Jack
