    Sax

For a start I shall say, street really is not my thing. I get nervous pointing a camera at anyone that might not want their photo taken.

BUT I went into brighton today to look at macs (Decided to wait, and save up for a 27inch imac) And on my way out a fog had come down and I looked back and saw this guy, with the sun coming down behind him, and the light was actually immense. Unfortunately I couldnt think straight, so rushed the shots rather then metering properly so couldnt actually get what I was after, but he spotted me and I zoomed and snuck one more shot before giving him some money and making my way to jessops to look at tripods.

Well you got a reaction and a picture, but not really the kind we encourage. Really shouldn't aggravate people. Best to give him the money first and exchange a few pleasantries. Take your time, and be casual. To make people relax, sit down for a while and take a few shots of other things.

I understand what you are saying Mike, but IMHO, buskers and the like put themselves in the public domain, do their bit, with the whole intention of attracting peoples attention (albeit for money), so they can't complain when someone takes their pic.

IMHO street photography stops being street the instant you start delibarately interacting with the person.

After that point it becomes portaiture.

And my aim wasn't to get a reaction, my target was to get him in his enviornment, to capture the back lit mist (which I failed to do in any of the pictures because of the contrast) the reaction I felt at the time though, made a good photo, so I took it. No extra insult would be added if he felt that way, as he wouldnt even be aware that I was taking another.
