    London

I'm off to London on Monday to fanny around while my SO attends a conference. When I've watched the news each evening on TV, there's always a phalanx of snappers in tow. Is there anyway of knowing in advance of events that might provide some fun with a camera in hand?
Demos in Trafalgar Sq? MPs in court over expenses? Film premiere?
Or should I just hang around Downing Street and hope I'm lucky?

    Thanks,

    Lola

Many events where press photographers gather require special access permits ie the public are not allowed in Downing Street. London flickr group might give you some ideas - it all depends on what kind of things you like to photograph - people, buildings, ducks?

    Yep

All of the above. I'm not very discriminating (Fen may agree).

I realise I can't go into Downing Street, but I could lurk at the end and take pictures of the security measures........

    just joking.

Don't play innocent with me! You're offering a new female member personal guided tours and only this afternoon you were showing off your knowledge of Stout!

My guide to photographing London (lived in it for 16 years - don't like it much! I suppose familiarity breeds contempt etc)

Birds, waterfowl - St James's Park - features heavily in my flickr. I work nearby and go down there a lot. It is crazy busy at lunchtimes but the critters don't seem to mind.

Buildings - in the city and around the Bank of England (a freind says). Also I suppose around the Houses of Parliament. Some nice buildings around St James's Park too. It's just by Buckingham Palace.

People - well they are everywhere. Hard to get a photo of anything without someone getting in the way. Camden Market might be interesting for people shots. Some interesting clothes and piercings to be found round there.

There is also London Zoo and The British Museum. Kew Gardens is only a short train ride out if the weather is good.

    Re: London

Good stuff. I'd personally do Covent Garden and the embankment south side walk from Tower Bridge to County Hall. That takes in Boris' beehive, HMS Belfast, Tate Modern and wobbly bridge, the Tower across the water with Gherkin, Golden Hind, Southwark Cathedral, Shakespeare's Globe, South Bank centres, Houses of Parliament and the Millennium Wheel. Should fill a card or six.
