    Hi Nippy.
I have no idea how the combination will work on a XL1s but I love it on my EOS 5D (mk1) see click for 350k pic . I gather the 2x ef extender can be quite variable, some good, some not so good I guess I got a good one.

I also have no idea if that combo would work together fully - I mean the teleconveter will fit the lens and the EF converter will fit the teleconverter so the parts should all line up.
However as to what features or image quality you get I have no idea and you might find that you have to post to a video forum to get answers that you are seeking.

I can tell you what it would be like on a DSLR, but since video cameras use a smaller sensor (far as I know) and also I have no idea how auto focus (even if it does) function on a video camera when using EF lenses.

Hi Nippy .. I've used the EF x2 extender with my EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens on a 5D MkII and I was pleased with the results. Although it's tiny here on the forum, my avatar moon picture was taken with that same combination (800mm effectively) and I can tell you that the detail is pretty good when viewed at 50% on my monitor (sorry I can't post the file, I believe I have to have a Flickr account to do this, and I've been having some trouble setting one up).

What you will notice however, is that you'll lose autofocus and of course you'll lose two stops of aperture as well. The latter you can compensate for by whacking up the ISO or by using a tripod - it depends what you're going to be photographing.

I know you believe you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure you realise what you heard is not what I meant
