    scanning transparencies/negs

    Hi all
    I have recently purchased a pretty good film/slide scanner. Obviously the slide scanning should be straightforward. However with the film strips, whilst assuming that it is quite a facile process to convert from negative to positive using software for B/W film, does one require specialist software for colour negs?

    many thanks

    My Epson scanner has options for Reflected/Film;

    And for B&W Negative/Colour Negative/Positive Film.

    I would imagine that your scanner has the same options - possibly hidden, and you may need to opt for the "Pro" mode/setting to get them to show.

    The Colour negative setting should deal with the orange mask used in modern colour negative films, and the Auto exposure hopefully will cope with the variations in colour mask. If you have some of the old Agfa CN14 & CN17 colour negatives, these were without a mask, and so should be scanned as a colour slide, and the negative image inverted in Photoshop.
