Well I'm going to sort a hat out to eat, but I still have doubts as to when that will be. I really hope it's soon. From the specifications it really looks impressive. However I can't understand why Pentax have spent so long in developing this camera only to intimate it may only be available in Japan!

It all sounds a bit similar to the new digital Mamiya - I wonder who will win?

A Medium format that takes SD cards?

Limited to Japan only sounds a bit like they know they can't meet global production targets so they are limiting to one market alone. However with the price and features grey import is bound to be used and someone will most likley hack the firmwire to allow for alternate language menus.
It's that or they are just going to release country by country as they up their production? But cutting out European and US markets sounds very odd

Shame they didn't get first to market, but then again being first does not nessicerrily mean being best. Waiting for compitition to make their moves in the form of the Leica S2 and Hasselblad H4D could be thought to be a tad unwise or feindishly clever. If they did actually spend five years in development it could be a superior product at a supirior price. Any chance AP can do a three way shoot out with these machines?
