    Fuzzy Pictures on Facebook

Yesterdy, I used Apple Aperture for the first time to automatically load photos up to Facebook. Obviously I didn't re-size them, this being done automatically in the process. Great idea thinks I - no fiddling! Unfortunately, no, as I now have 40 slightly blurry photos uploaded!

Does anybody know what the native size Facebook is? Presumably, I'll have to size down to this & resharpen.

What a pain! Or do you know of a "quick fix?" This is really for instant communication, rather than exhibition standard, but "blurry" is a not a good advert for my skills!

    Thanks

Just checked mine. They all look fine and appear to come out at 400x600 pixels. I think I made them 600x900 pixels but all I did was to make them smaller. No additional sharpening.

Are you using aperture 2 or 3?

I used the export feature with facebook plugin for aperture 2, and had a preset for faceboock with the resize and save to jpeg (then I've got a preset to upload to flikr for the forum too) - that didn't seem to mess about with the images too much (apart from the resise)

I've not used '3' yet, and I know it has the export to flikr and facebook without a plugin - so not sure how that one workd?

Thanks for your comments, both of you.

Aperture 3 - just downloaded it - just has a Facebook upload button as far as I can tell. Further to your comments, Sam, will now try and find a preset - if it has one!

Edit - found a preset section - had to set it, in desperation, to 50% of original picture size or otherwise you have to set a height & width in pixels with no "aspect ratio lock" or differentiation between vertical & hroizontal photos - strange omissions!

Edit 2 - Uploaded the same photos again - with the new preset sizes - uploaded faster so must be smaller. No gain in definition - still rather "fuzzy" Bad news for me - means I have to manually reduce & sharpen each one in turn.

3 seems to work in a different way to 2 with a plugin.

The plugin still works with 3 though.

If you search for the Facebook plugin and use that rather than in built in one it will give you more controle over what happens to the images as they are exported. I've got mine set to export to flikr (same sort of plugin) - and I then tell it to either use the preset for my website (with a water mark) or one for AP (600X600 - lower res) and it does the rest!

Don't think I'll be changing over to the inbuild version on aperture 3 - I like the extra plugin!!

I'm sure they would've tried that if they were using Photoshop, but they are using Apple Aperture
