    World Press Photo winner disqualified

Re: World Press Photo winner disqualified

I had to smile at the juxtaposition of two separate stories, this one about image manipulation, and the second about the Roger Fenton photo export ban. The Fenton photo was not taken in the Crimea, but rather was “staged” in Fenton’s London studio, and featured the photographer himself!

Now I don’t deny that the image “inspired” by Fenton’s trip to the Crimea was published as such, and that Stepan Rudik broke the rules , but which is more manipulative? And should either or both be derided for their inaccuracy?

The difference is that Fenton's photo was not entered into a competition with rules that plainly stated the submitted photo must not be maniplulated.

And there was me hoping it was the overall winner being disqualified for mind-numbing dullnes...

I can't help thinking that perhaps they should have looked at the raw file before announcing the results [cynical] or did they want to prove how honest they are by making an example of someone...[/cynical]
