I guess by "best" you are asking which has the lens giving the greater apparent magnification. The Samsung you highlight is being sold with two lenses one of which has a maximum of 200mm. The Nikon outfit is offered with one lens and that has a maximum zoom of 105mm. So the Samsung in this instance has a longer zoom lens.

I don't know much about dslr camera's, but i want one that has more zoom than my current digital one, and that has 10x optical. So i dont know how relative that would be in terms of lenses

I'm guessing that you have a compact/bridge camera seeing as they are the only ones to use the '10x' term for zooms.

When it comes to DSLRs if you want a '10x' zoom then you need a camera with an 18-200mm lens. Bear in mind though that these zoom have their downsides that come hand in hand with their extra zoom range. Typically, when it comes to quality you don't want a zoom with great than 3x range.

    Re: Which of these...

Neither camera has the best zoom. That applies no matter how you define 'best zoom'.
The Nikon camera is a proven DSLR and in that kit comes with a 5.3 x zoom.
The NX-10 is a new breed of camera and in that kit, as previously stated comes with two lenses to cover a range of 11.1.
The Nikon entry level camera can also come with an 18-55 nd 55-200 zooms. If you go for the twin lens Nikon kit then makesure that you get the VR (vibration reduction) lenses.

The Nikon is likely to have faster focus than the Samsung.
The Samsung is much smaller. Very few people have the Samsung because it is so new.
    I own an 18-200mm (i.e 11.1 x) Nikkor. I used to think it very good. Now I generally use a combination of 16-85 and 70-300 Nikkors on a D300.
I suggest that you do some more careful research of specification of suitable cameras and lenses. Remember that the DSLRs and new style interchangeable cameras like the NX10 all come either body only, so you buy whatever lens you want and can afford in that fitting, or come in a choice of kits. In the case of Nikon the kit lenses are known to be a very good starting point for someone buying a first DSLR. The Samsung may well be just as good.
If you go down the Samsung route please get back to us and tell us about it.

    Re: Which of these...

I suspect it's going to me more like a 400mm on a DSLR to get a narrower angle of view than a compact with a 10x zoom can give.

Zoom factors don't tell us what focal lengths a lens has. 10x could mean 35-350mm (equiv) so a 200mm might not be as long as is desired.

Then there's the AF thing - the Nikon seems like a more sensible choice for anything I'd want to use a long lens for. (or Canon of course )

    Re: Which of these...

With SLRs, you have to look at the complete range of lenses available to decide what their ultimate zoom range is. The kit lens that comes with them is typically an 18-55mm zoom which is about a 3x zoom BUT, if you look at the whole range of focal lengths available for a system, you can start with the Sigma 4.5mm and go up to the long end of Sigma's 300-800mm zoom which gives a zoom (with lens changes!) of 177.77777(recurring) x. IIRC, there are even longer lenses available, so the 177.777777777 may be a conservative estimate!
