    Digital Camera Hardware Specification

I am intending to buy a new camera and am wanting to learn about the differences between the hardware of cameras. I was told that one 10-million pixel camera is not the same as another 10-million pixel camera because one camera may have better micro-circuitry (bit like computer CPU's)

Is there a section within the site that discuss these issues.

    many thanks

Indeed, the amount of pixels doesn't guarantee high quality images. The size of the sensor, the algorithms used by the image processor and the quality of the lens (among other things) all count towards the final image.

Are there any rules I should apply to camera performance? Using the PC analogy again, a Pentium is better than a Celeron. 64-bit - 256-bit (wish). I suspect if I stay with - say - Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc - I should be on safe ground?

Basically, yes. As the saying goes, you (generally) get what you pay for; a £100 camera won't perform like a £600 one.
