    I finally succumbed to HDR....

I didn't know exactly where to post this. I feel a bit like traditional capture is fading away. I finally came to terms that I will need to start doing a bit more PP to some of my photos be that digital or film, other than the simple sharpen, colour correction or crop and finally succumbed to HDR. It seems that more and more competitions entries are so and are won by the heavily HDRed photo, more and more exhibited/sold photos are so. If I want to make some more money from my photography I have to. As such, I decided that I gotta move with the times, people are increasingly less interested in the imperfections of reality I think. Just some steam off.

So you have succumbed to money, shame on you.

I know, but eventually it will pay more gear and/or leave money to spare.

Oh dear, understand where you are coming from on this but hope that it is just a short lived folly

Indeed I hope that this current fashion for OTT HDR dies a natural death, I really don't want to go there.

I took a walk through Newcastle Quayside street market on Sunday morning where there is an increasing number of stalls selling prints, and there was a pleasing preponderance of decent quality images that were not so polluted. Maybe the fashion has not yet reached these outlying parts of the Empire.

Further, I don't think that the stock market has been infected as yet and suspect that it may remain immune.

I don't think trad capture is fading-prices for film cameras and darkroom gear seem to be at their highest level for some time on e-bay, so someone must be doing it. As for the necessity of heavy digital processing on images, I think this will be a passing fad and will disappear in time-most non photographers I have shown severely HDR'd images to find them unconvincing.

It has its place and as technology improves so will that type of process,i'm currently working on combined process of new and old but its in the early stages of conception yet, interestingly most of the young students at uni had never heard of it and a good proportion are into traditional capture ( film work) which is a good place to start and is encouraged, how can you appreciate what photographers of the past have done without trying it yourself. That can only be good for photography
People too weak to follow their own dreams, will always find a way to discourage yours

I totally agree. Some are so heavily HDRed that look like paintings...I mean, why not take up painting instead
