    ie 8

Like a fool I updated to Internet Explorer 8 (from 7) Now, links within threads will open up a new tab but the page hangs and refuses to download.

Is this typical of ie8 or is there anything I can do? (and don't say use another browser unless you;re prepared to tell me how to transfer all my favourites to Chrome!)

Export your favourites into a HTML file and the load file into Chrome favourites?

    Re: ie 8

Change to Chrome, go to Tools (spanner icon), Options, Personal Stuff Tab, Browsing Data, Import Data - easy. I tried IE8 on my old computer before it broke down last Autumn, didn't like it, refused to download it on my new machine, now use Chrome almost exclusively. The only time I return to IE7 is when I want to list something on eBay, because there are more formatting options in the item description box, and I have not yet learned how to do it on Chrome.

    Re: ie 8

I uploaded Chrome and it asked me on opening if I wanted to import all info from Firefox, so it did it all for me, I dont know if it does that from IE? It is very fast but I dont much like the layout, Im still mostly using FF.

Yes it does ask. However, if you missed the question, or want to do it later, the alternative method is available.

I'm a uSoft boy and was committed to IE8 but, let's be frank, it's unstable and it's rubbish. I've looked at all the major players and have settled on Firefox. It needs a few add-ins to make it fly, but it's far and away the best of the bunch.

Hmmmm - must say I've found IE 8 to be a lot more stable than Firefox, which I've pretty much given up on - Opera being browser of choice round here.

Bawbee - I'm 20 years older than your goodself and I'm still in there pitching! I admit that my aim is sometimes a little uncertain but I don't do too badly.

Found IE8 to be stable once it got over not liking site certificates. Still also run Firefox which is my preference. IE8 mainly used for Sharepoint (intranet) and some other Microsoft services which I use.

Unstable and rubbish? Not had any problems with stability since the update and it does all I want of it. Tried FF and don't like it much (but that is on HER ASSUS netbook which is (IMO) little more than a toy compared to Windows ones) and since IE does all I want/need, IIAFWFI?

Must say I'm having a few problems with IE8 (mostly occasional "freezing") on the PC that runs vista but curiously none on the Win7 machine or even on "good old" WinXP pro on my laptop. May not be anything to do with IE8 and there may just be someting amiss on the vista machine but it's an annoying fact nonetheless!

I should have mentioned that I'm still on good old xP Home, a relatively slow machine with not a huge amount of RAM.

Interesting discussion. You could still use Netscape as it still exists in modified form as the Seamonkey project. The latest version 2 is more or less a streamlined version of Firefox 3. It also comes in Windows and Linux versions

IE 8 is a great browser and unfairly much maligned. I notice somebody suggested Chrome? That is also a great browser but still under heavy development and not as compatible with all web content as one might think having that Google name behind it.
