APOY Competition ... musically challenging?

It’s been nearly two weeks since the themes for this year's APOY competition were announced (AP 6 February) and I don’t suppose I'm the only one to have noticed that they all take after song titles:

• Islands in the Stream – Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton (1983)
• Have you ever seen the rain? – Creedence Clearwater Revival (1971)
• Everyday People – Sly & The Family Stone (1969)
• In Bloom – Nirvana (1992)
• Here comes the sun – The Beatles (1969)
• Close to you – Maxi Priest (1990)
• Wish you were here – Pink Floyd (1975)
• Walk on the wild side – Lou Reed (1973)
• Black or White – Michael Jackson (1991)
• Take on Me – A-Ha (1985)

I’d love to have been a fly on the wall when the APOY committee were in session to discuss the themes. I wonder whether the musical connection happened by accident with the first theme and then someone thought what a good idea it would be to link them all in a similar way!

Good to see AP’s creative spirit is alive and well!
