Hi,
I have a D90 and was wondering can anyone tell me what is the largest SD card I can put in it.. The reason is that I have 8GB size cards but am going on safari and of course I don't want to be carrying around lots of cards. Thanks

Looks like you can go to at least 32GB with SDHC. Note the statement that other cards have not been tested - doesn't mean they won't work.
From Park Cameras website:
Approved SD memory cards
The following SD memory cards have been tested and approved for use in this camera.
All cards of the designated make and capacity can be used, regardless of speed.
- SanDisk : 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB(1), 4 GB(2), 8 GB(2)
- Toshiba : 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB(1), 4 GB(2), 8 GB(2), 16 GB(2), 32 GB(2)
- Panasonic : 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB(1), 4 GB(2), 8 GB(2), 16 GB(2), 32 GB(2)
- Lexar Media : 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB(1), 4 GB(2)
- Lexar Media Platinum II: 512 MB, 1 GB, 2 GB(1), 4 GB(2)
- Lexar Media Professional: 1 GB, 2 GB(1), 4 GB(2)
(1) If the memory card will be used with a card reader or other device, the device must support 2 GB SD memory cards.
(2) SDHC-compliant. If the memory card will be used with a card reader or other device, be sure that the device supports SDHC.
For more details on the above cards, please contact the manufacturer.
Other cards have not been tested.

In terms of security it could be safer to get a number of smaller capacity cards rather than 1 single card.Hi,

If you were to lose, or have you camera stolen while on holiday, then you will lose ALL your pictures with it.
If you have been using different cards and keeping them in your case or at least seperate from the camera, even if the camera is lost or stolen you will at least still have some pictures of your holiday of a lifetime.
Just a suggestion, to let you know that there are advantages of using smaller cards.

Might I suggest that whatever sized cards you do decide to use you also take several smaller ones and a means of copying onto those small cards (?does the D90 have two card slots? if not you may need some external gizmo) then copy your new images regularly and mail them home. That way you will be covered against loss of all your equipment toward the end of the holiday.

I'm holding my breath on this one as some favour using the larger cards.
When I travel abroad with my camera I use several cards and following a tip I read somewhere, I carry an old, small, hardback book, and tape the used cards inside the book. The cards are then secure, out of sight and away from the rest of my kit.In terms of security it could be safer to get a number of smaller capacity cards rather than 1 single card.

I don't have a choice of using big cards as my GX10 only eats up to 4GB (about 180 JPEG + RAW)

Exactly what I was going to say - and it is also an advantage if you have a corrupt card - you only stand to lose a proportion of your images and not all of themIn terms of security it could be safer to get a number of smaller capacity cards rather than 1 single card.

I've put my feelings on the subject here. Suffice it to say that the argument has more than one side.
SD Cards are far from indestructible. I lost every thing on one when I dropped it on the floor when about to put it in the card reader. CF cards seem to be stronger.I've put my feelings on the subject here. Suffice it to say that the argument has more than one side.
I use one and two gig cards nothing larger.
If I B-up a one gig card its Just a I gig problem and price... ruin an 8gig card that is a lot of work and cash.

Which is precisely why I was very careful not to tell the OP this is what they SHOULD do!I've put my feelings on the subject here. Suffice it to say that the argument has more than one side.
People's work flows differ, some people may have a portable backup device, many probably don't.
I was just providing an alternative solution.

I just think its too much to risk losing the whole lot on one card. Irrespective of corruption theres also the risk of losing it, breaking it, having your camera nicked with the sole card in it etc, its just too much to risk keeping the whole lot on one card, after all SD cards are bloody miniscule and weigh nothing! You even get a free mini-pouch that goes on a key ring to store them in with many versions.
Id take several and upload/burn the contents to another source every day or whenever the opportunity arises, but also keep them on the SD card.
Other than losing all your pics theres also the problem that if for any reason your sole card gets lost/damaged/corrupted you now have nothing left to shoot on for the rest of the trip. Its just illogical when they are so miniscule...I always keep a spare attached to my wallet anyhow, should the one in my camera die for any reason...

Is it on a diet? Mine happily munches 16GB cards without a murmur.I don't have a choice of using big cards as my GX10 only eats up to 4GB (about 180 JPEG + RAW)
