    Edinburgh

    Hi All,
I'm heading up to Edinburgh at the weekend for a few days and as I've not been before I was wondering if anyone has any insight into some nice picture spots in and around the city centre.

    Thanks in advance!

    Colin

    All over.

Seriously, what kind of pictures are you into, as that makes all the difference.

I have to say I don't really have a style. I'm near the lake district so I love getting out there with my landscape shots. I have to say I'm not so good or experienced with 'city' photography, thus the question.

Generally I'll go with the rule of thumb of taking loads of pictures of everything through the day and by law of averages I'll have some nice keepsakes at the end of it!

I guess that doesn't really answer your question! but hey, it was worth a try!

Well for general advice, browse this sub forum and you'll see a few Edinburgh related threads, which will give you some ideas. Also try a search on Flickr or similar for 'Edinburgh' and check out what/where pictures have been taken.

there's plenty around the centre to take photos of if you didn't have a particular photographic goal for the trip
but a for a few ideas...
-there are lovely old buildings everywhere you go, and loads of tourist attractions to visit
-you could go for a walk up calton hill at the east end of princess street
-take some street shots and explore the royal mile and closes
-at the bottom of the royal mile there's parliament (which is interestingly shaped) and arthurs seat (a big hill, with great views)
-the botanic gardens might be nice

where abouts are you staying? (as there may be great places to visit nearby that don't make the usual tourist list)

    Good locations in Edinburgh :
    - Calton Hill, located at the east end of Princes St, good location for shots of the Edinburgh skyline
    - Salisbury Brags, again good for skyline shots
    - The Newtown , beautiful Georgian buildings and street layout
    - The Royal Mile, and Old Town, street shots.
