Oh Lord won't you buy me a 300 F2.8L
Hi Oggy,
I have shot with the DA 70 a few times and while it is tad pricey it is a very, very
nice lens. As I was mentioning to a customer, if I were to revert back to prime
lenses, the DA 15, DA21 and DA 70 would be my choices.......but I would still hide
my DA 50-135 somewhere, as well
*As for the Mod request, me thinks you will have to send your request in a SASE or post a
picture sized at 103kb
Cheers,
Jack

At 105mm 35mm equivalent, it would not be my first choice for a prime lens. I would prefer something nearer 35 giving near 50mm equivalent. But also I have stopped spending for a while, just trying to top up the savings again after the K-7 etc.![]()

I must confess I'm a bit tempted to add the DA70 to the DA21 and DA40 I already have. But I'm not sure how much I'd use it - I tend to mainly shoot landscapes, using wide lenses (or pano stitching with the DA40), and even at this silly price, it's still close to 350 quid. I have a Tamron 90/2.8 if I need a fast medium tele (although it's a lot bigger).
I see there's still a day left at this offer price, but I think I'll probably give it a miss.
Do I feel another Monobod U turn comming on - clicky?![]()

105mm as was is a really nice focal length for portraits, stage work and landscapes. I always used to use a trio of 24mm-50mm-100mm with my Pentax MX.
Best regards

Hi Oggy,
Methinks, you (amongst others) know David/Monobod better than he does

I see today it's gone (back?) up to 380 quid odd. Still quite a good price these days...
Best price for it today click
Before you buy from Simply Electronics, it is worth googling the name. Some very mixed experiences out there.

Didn't think to check that. Was really only looking at the price but here are some reviews of company Click![]()
I certainly asked for that one!![]()
But seriously, I am getting more interested in birds and big cats, so a long lens would be very nice, something around 200mm at f2.8, but that is going to cost a bit more than £380. Two friends have the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 and we had a day out at Banham Zoo last Sunday. The images they captured with soft backgrounds were really nice.
What would you suggest to fill this requirement?![]()

Yes John, I agree. The Pentax 100mm f/2.8 macro is a superb lens for this work, it gives a beautiful soft out of focus background.105mm as was is a really nice focal length for portraits, stage work and landscapes. I always used to use a trio of 24mm-50mm-100mm with my Pentax MX.

@ Colin - They seem to be an odd bunch. If what has been ordered is on the counter in front of them and they can be bothered then they are as good as the best. If not then it seems things can go horribly wrong.
@ David - 70-210 F2.8 is definately heading into expensiveland. Last time I did a Zoo, I used the 55-300 kit lens which is capable of very good results. I'm Sure Mr Riley will back me up on that. it's only F4-5.6 so you will need a little more light though. At the price of the Canon, there is the DA*60-250 which is a top lens and capable of stunning results or an alternative track - the Sigma 150-500 which can take a good picture and is less than £700.
I have no experience with the shorter Sigmas but I have heard good of them.

Yes, I'll go along with what Oggy says!
Best regards

Yes, I have the Sigma 100-300 f/4 and the 1.4x teleconverter, but rather stupidly I did not take it with me to Banham Zoo. It is a great performer in good light, but on a dull day mid winter f/4 or f/5.6 with the 1.4x added could be a bit on the 'slow shutter speed' end for a steady shot even with stabilisation. However, as lenses are now very costly, I will persevere with it and see how I get on. Probably on a tripod with a remote infra red release it would be ok, providing that the subject is not moving too much. Some hope of that though at a zoo.@ Colin - They seem to be an odd bunch. I can vouch for the Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6 and the 17-70 f/2.8-4.5 as being good lenses, I have both and they perform well.

David - Do you have the Sigma TC? If so do you get AF with it? Screwdrive or HSM?
Oh Lord won't you buy me a 300 F2.8L
Yes, I have the Sigma 1.4x TC and on the 100-300 f/4 if gives autofocus at f/5.6 OK. This lens does not have a focus motor built in but uses the screw drive.David - Do you have the Sigma TC? If so do you get AF with it? Screwdrive or HSM?
