    Foamcore and other US materials

    Hi

I keep reading about Foamcore and its use as a cheap reflecing material for studios. I cannot find this stuff in the UK cheaply. It cost lots and lots of cash although apparently in the US Wallmart etc sell it for about $3 per 6ft x 4 ft strip.

Also the stuff they use to make flash diffusers is called something like craft foam and I can't find it here either.

Can anyone suggest alternatives they have used succesfully especially for the foamcore ?

Not as cheap but DIY Framing have it at £3.83 for an A1 size sheet which seems the going rate looking at other art supply websites.

Alternatively get a huge gert piece of cardboard and either paint it white or cover it in tinfoil for a more reflective surface. If you go down the tinfoil route, scrunch the foil up a bit first before flattening it out and attaching it to the board. It difuses the reflections and stops hotspots.

    Thanks chaps for this.

David, that has been my experience too. It seems we pay an awful lot more for a little bit of this stuff than our American friends do for a large bloack. I am a little frustrated reading about 7ft x 4 ft blocks of this stuff for around £2.

Anyway, I am inclined to believe the B&Q option might be the best bet around so I will pursue.

Many thanks to both of you

    Willie
