    Slide Scanning Software

I have a Veho VFS-004 USB slide scanner - not the most sophisticated piece of equipment I've ever owned, but it does the job (I'm digitising my old holiday slides). It comes bundled with Photoimpression 6 which is used to carry out monitoring and adjustment of the scanner settings and importing the images to the PC. The only problem is that Photoimpression is a bit of a blunt weapon and leaves quite a bit to be desired. Is there any better software that will do this job for me?

You can download a free trial of 'Vuescan' which is reckoned the best third-party option, they claim to support most scanners http://www.hamrick.com/
There's also another, Silverfast I think, but gets less good ratings

It's difficult to advise as the Veho VFS-004 appears not to be a scanner, as such. That's just a marketing term. Slide film being dense (not unlike me), it's really difficult to get the best from it without a full-on film scanner.

That's not to say that it isn't fit for purpose - but it might prove difficult to refine the results.

Yes , I agree , Vuescan is a good choice but I must disagree re film , slide film is not dense as it is cut away in development but neg film is.
