Using old non electronic contact lenses with new DSLR

I have a sigma mirror 600mm lens and have bought a pentax K200D camera. However, I can not get the camera to take a photo with the lens even tho you can look thro the viewfinder. Is there a way around this. Help please....

Have you set 'using aperture ring' in the set up menu to enable?

I'm not altogether sure that this would prevent the shutter from firing though. Have you turned off Autofocus on the front of the camera?

I have just tried my K20 with a DFA 100 with the apperture ring not set to A and "Use apperture ring" disabled and tried to take a picture. The camera did not even try to focus. It simply flashed "F--" in the viewfinder. I think Monobod might be onto something.

You should set "Using Aperture ring" to permitted aand the shutter will fire on M and Av. If set to any other auto mode it will operate on Av. Obviously with a mirror lens there is no aperture, but you still need to do this.

If the body is set to MF the shutter will fire whenever you wish. If set to AF it will fire when the green hexagon in the viewfinder indicates correct focus. This latter is useful for "trap focus" where you depress the shutter release and focus and only when a subject is in focus will the shutter release. So you could wait for an approaching car, for example, and when it arrived at the focus point the shutter would release.
    Best regards

Yes, I use this 'feature' with my manual focus 70-210 f/4 one touch zoom. it is such a nice lens, that I still use it frequently.

My K100D is permanently set to 'M' mode, so the shutter fires even if no lens is attached - useful for pinhole adaptors or playing around with optical elements.

Or maybe all Pentax owners are afflicted with memory loss - they post a question and then

Well, if this is her ... .. She is Blonde .... .. so, perhaps, we can forgive her ...if we can shoot her
