    GX-10 lens compatibility

I have a Samsung GX-10 and have been looking to buy either a Sigma 120-400,150-500 or 50-500. I've seen conflicting reports as to whether these lenses will be compatible with my camera. Does anybody actually own a GX-10 with any of these lenses or have any other advice? Thanks.

Hi Redholme - welcome to the forum.

The 50-500 should be OK as it is a screwdrive focus.

The 150-500 may give problems as it is an SDM(HSM)focus. I think you may need the latest firmware. The 120-400 is similar.

Hopefully someone will be able go give you more definite info.

    Hi there
The 50-500 is definitely ok - I have a GX10 and use a Bigma when I am feeling strong - it is quite a monster.

I know you can get updated firmware for the GX20 to allow SDM focusing - but can you get for the GX10?
(I haven't seen mention of it so far)

Not sure John. I was going by the Pentax equivalents. I'm sure the K10 can be used with HSM with the correct firmware, so I assumed the GX10 might be similar.

    Re: GX-10 lens compatibility

    All,

I have taken your advice and upgraded the firmware to version 1.30. Today, I took my GX-10 to Warehouse Express to try out the 150-500 on the camera. It worked perfectly and I purchased it. The autofocusing was almost silent. If you thought the 50-500 was the Bigma, this lens is bigger! Thanks for the advice.

Glad you got it sorted. One point about the 150-500 - don't expect it to be too sharp wide open at 500mm. You may have to go down toward F8 or F10 efore it really starts working.

    Re: GX-10 lens compatibility

Do all the "long and big" Sigma HSM lenses support HSM on the GX10, or is there some way of determining which do and which do not (e.g. version of HSM firmware in the lens)?

As far as I know John, the Bigma (50-500) is screwdriver only.

    Oggy

Thanks - but I would probably only be interested in the 120-400 anyway as I don't have Rockape arms!
