Sigma 70-300mm OS for Dynax 7?

When this lens was announced on the AP site here the slightly strange English indicated that it was APS-C only, so I looked no further. I have now learned that it is full frame and available in Sony Alpha fit. The blurb also states that it will not work in AF/OS mode on Pentax and Sony film (sic) cameras. However, as the Dynax 7 mount is exactly the same as the 7D mount, it could actually be just non-ADI mounts that it will not work with.

If anyone can shed any light on this possibility, I would be extremely pleased to hear it, so I can relay the information to Santa in good time.

I'd recommend posing the question on the Dyxum forum.

Then if you get a definitive answer come back here and let us know

Re: Sigma 70-300mm OS for Dynax 7?

    Hmmm ...

I once posted a question on the Dyxum forum asking if someone could let me know what the reported maximum aperture(s) were on the Sigma 75-200mm/f2.8-3.5 between 140mm and 200mm (late serial number). I did not receive a single reply, I had to modify the AF circuit board several times before I got it to work on my 7. For some reason the lens would not AF between 140 and 190mm, and had I known the aperture details in full, I could have calculated the required mods, and done the job just once.

I suppose I could venture on there again ...

    Is this the one?
If so click on the link to the Sigma site.
It is a D lens so ADI will work.

Re: Sigma 70-300mm OS for Dynax 7?

Thanks for the link to a link!

Yes, thats the lens - but if you go here then it says this:-

For Pentax and Sony mount, it is not possible to use AF and OS when attaching to a film SLR, Pentax ist* series and K100D DSLR cameras.
Hence my quandary. If I lived in the UK I would just pop along to somewhere that had one, and try it out. Over here - no chance.

I understand your problem now.Not looking very good if you want to use it on a Dynax.I could call into Jessops with my Dynax 40 to check for you but the chances of them having one in stock is remote!I will ask though.

Just an update.Called into local Jessops this morning and guess what..........
now they no longer stock Sigma!!It`s not long ago they dropped Pentax so what next?
Probably easier to list what they DO stock--Canon,Sony and Tamron. That`s all I could see in the display cases.

Well, thanks for trying. It's pretty unbelievable that a nationwide camera shop should stop selling the largest independent lens manufacturer's products!

    Forgot to say
The local independent camera shop DOES stock Sigma. They do have that lens in stock but not yet in KM/Sony mount.
So watch this space,I`ll check next week for you.
    Cheers and glad to help

    Sigma 70-300mm OS --update

    There,I haven`t forgotten!
Unfortunately the shop still hasn`t received the lens and no idea when(or if) it will arrive.
Sorry I can`t be more helpful but I will check FTTT.
I don`t know if it`s significant, but the Sigma website no longer has the bit about not working with film cameras. see here

    Cheers

    Re: Sigma 70-300mm OS --update

Very many thanks for following up on this for me - it is much appreciated. You flagged the US Sigma site (http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/len...63&navigator=3), but unfortunately the UK site (http://www.sigma-imaging-uk.com/lens...70-300mmOS.htm) is still showing the caveat.

There is definitely something weird about Sigma and Dynax. I ended up with two Sigma 75-210mm f2.8/3.5 from eBay.de, and had to modify the circuit board on one of them to get it to work properly on my Dynax 7. However, now I have a Dynax 5 as well, I tried the unmodified lens on it - and it works perfectly.
