...and girls in white stilletos doesnt count as 'interesting'

    cheers

    How about Greensted Church?

It's very old and made of timber. When I visited I was fascinated by the low window for lepers to see in and watch the service, without spreading their illness to the other churchgoers.

Not far away is Kelveden Hatch nuclear war bunker complex.

    Re: Essex!!

This bloke found plenty of interest in Essex!

Sure, it's a bit short of relief, but this lass found some interesting stuff as well in big sky country.

There's the derelict plotlands round Basildon if dereliction is your thing, or the Iron Age landscapes down there, there's all those creeks and inlets on the huge mileage of coast, plenty of places with ships and boats, Beacon Hill and the lighthouses at Dovercourt, huge wool churches like Thaxted and Saffron Walden in the north, where the countryside rolls gently for bucolic mile after bucolic mile...

If you let us know where you live in Shazza's own county, maybe those of us who know it a bit can come up with more ideas?

Hmmmm all good suggestions thanks! As for Constable, I can think of one kind of Wayne in Essex but not the hay type!

I live in the ASBO capital of Europe (or so it seems), Harlow....or 'Arlow as its know locally

    Ah, beautiful Harlot!

Not all that familiar with that bit (though haven't you got some canals round that way?), but I'll get the map out and see what I can find.

And if you fancy somewhere a bit quieter, try the Dengie peninsula. It's twenty years ago. That may sound like cobblers, but you'll know what I mean when you get there.

    Re: Essex!!

What about the birthplace of your great leader? Maldon is muddy, but also has Thames barges (warning, slightly commercial link, but ignore the bits on the right), pretty bits of the town, and nearby Heybridge Basin is one of my favourites.

And that's just for starters. It is all a bit flat and the coast line is slightly brown/green but there are some lovely spots. Have you tried Mersey Island? Ohh, fishing boats near the town with lots of yachties, and then unspoiled countryside and sandy beaches on the other.

To be frank though, I do prefer the girls in (and out of) white high heels.

Thanks everyone, looks like I might need to leave the girlfriend for the day at the weekend, and have a little road trip.

Had no idea there was so much in Essex, thought it was all hoodies walking staffies, and lay-by burger vans!

Damien, your site is blocked as "Adult Material" by the security settings on my work computer - not that I'm complaining, just posting this as advice to anyone else who may risk recieving a similar message.

    Re: Essex!!

I know the feeling, living in Essex I sometimes feel creatively stiffled by the landscape around me.

A couple of favorite spots of mine are 'Hadleigh Castle' and 'Old Leigh' in Southend... can be be done as a single trip if your not local only 5min car ride apart or if your're feeling adventourous it is a 15min walk, great panorama's and skyline from the castle and old leigh is very much a step back in time.

I do have some shots from both but I still haven't got round to getting them online. I will return a link a when I do.

    hope this helps

You might want to take a look at this years APOY winner - she's from Norfolk, which is no Glencoe either, but seems to do alright!

Well, no-one will be able to accuse you of being a paedophile in Frinton, as everyone is over 65, and if they think you are a terrorist you will be politely moved down the coast to Clacton in the hope that you'll blow up the riff-raff.

Looks like a good call to me!
