I'm not sure whether Leica still do a 28-35-50 Tri-E, a lens that I used to love

Don't think so Clive. I think it was dropped in favour of the WATE (which in itself would be quite interesting on full frame)

Not at present Clive. The 28-35-50 was discontinued a couple of years ago.

I finally got to play with the beast today, and very nice it is too. The shutter cocking motor is quieter than either the M8 or M8.2, which is a big plus. I shot six or seven jpegs to bring home; most with the 50mm f/2.5 Summarit - nice lens, quick focusing - and one with the 21mm Summilux, which is a thing of beauty. A lovely, lovely piece of glass.

Ivor reckons it'll be six weeks minimum to wait though. Apparently Leica ran out of the displays, which doesn't help matters when demand is so high.

Thanks Peter and Tim: it will be interesting to see how the sales continue after the initial surge. I think it has to be more pro orientated than amateur simply on a cost basis. As for the original Tr-E, there has to be a demand, but I suppose whether Leica re-introduce it will depend on the camera sales.

Clive - indeed. According to Ivor the initial demand has been higher than for the M8. Whether that's down to some pros trading in big heavy DSLRs as mentioned in AP, or because some people were holding back because the M8 had a crop factor (or because some maybe cancelled orders after the problems with that camera became apparent), or some other reason I don't know, but we'll see how things pan out.

Red Dot though has seemingly done very well in the last year or so, despite not being as close to the central London action as some other dealers, so there's obviously continuing demand for Leica kit.

I like Ivor's no nonsense approach and he had the good sense to set an M9 aside for me even though I hadn't asked him to. It's a step forwards from the M8 but not as big a step as the Nikon D3 was a step forwards from the D2x.
