    Digi settings for 35mm

Right i hope i'm not about to ask a really stupid question but i'm a newbie to it all so please forgive me.
What i plan to do is if i see a style of photo on the web or in AP that i like,i want to have a crack at doing something simular.Next to the photo's it has the details of settings, shutter speed, aperture. Now my question is,if these are settings on a digital SLR do they convert to the same on a 35mm SLR.

    Many thanks.

Mostly similar settings - it depends a bit on the camera. If it's full frame then aperture and focal length will give exactly the same depth of field, if it's an APS-C DSLR, then you'll need about 1.5 times the focal length and a stop smaller aperture. The same shutter speed will give the same degree of motion blur, but film grain is never going to be anything much like noise at a given ISO.

However, since you're unlikely to have the same lighting conditions, except perhaps in a carefully controlled studio set up, it's probably all fairly irrelevant. Just think about the effect that you want to achieve (depth of field, motion blur etc.) and try to realise that with the subject in front of you. Settings on published shots might give you a few ideas, but you can't really follow them slavishly. A bit of a shufti at depth of field tables, or a few velocity / distance sums, are likely to be far more useful.

Ok thanks.I realise that i would need to adjust slightly to suit where i am and the lighting but just thought its a starting point for me to then adjust from.
    Thanks again for your reply.

Let me put it this way - for normal photography, I use my digital SLR exactly like a film camera loaded with ISO 100 colour transparency film. I do not fiddle with the ISO and I bracket rather than messing with the preview screen.
