    End of an era

I have reluctantly come to the decision to part with my trad-film Dynax 9 and with it the Dyn.7xi I had as a spare.
I haven't used the lovely old thing since '06, it transpires, when I injured my wrist, and now it's too heavy and I've lost confidence. I'll keep the little light Dyn.5 'cos I still love film.
The question is, is there still (whith the recession and what-not) a market for big heavy cameras like the 9?
I realise I'll never make a profit on it but... does the second-hand film top-end SLR market still exist?

Yes there is still a market for the Minolta 9 model. Expect about £200 - if you sell on eBay. Depending on the condition and whether you have boxes/manuals etc you may get more. Sell any lenses separately. Personally I'd keep them

Yeah, I mailed Mifsud and they didn't want mine (I asked £200 for the pair D7 & D9)
I'm keeping the lenses and the flash - 5600. It's purely the weight I can't cope with any more.
I can hang on to them - I'm not desperate to sell, and I'm not out of pocket; I just wondered if I should get rid now or later

Me too - but at least I have now it's heir (well kind of) - the Sony a900

The Dynax 9 is certainly still desirable but maybe it won't depreciate a lot more having already lost most of it's value. Look at prices for the 9000 and 9xi as a rough guide of what might happen in a few years time - prices hold up pretty well.

Minolta (high-end rather than flagship) film bodies without lenses fetch next to nothing on Ebay. Depreciation has been so fast a lot of camera shops can't shift the used stock they have other than at a loss, so are unwilling to take more even at a bargain price. You may however be able to get something if part-exchanging. I sold a 303si I'd bought for accessories for £7 to a guy who told me he traded it in for £75 off a new DSLR.

The 7xi is probably not going to fetch much.
I have 3 7000i and a 700si on the way that all cost under £20 inclusive of P&P on ebay. One of the 7000i is in genuine mint condition with all original packaging and now my main camera. 2 of those 4 purchases have exceeded my expectation, 1 was below par with an internal LCD fault and the other I'm waiting on. The nature of ebay keeps prices low because people really just don't know what they're getting (although this generally doesn't keep lens prices sensible!).

Have you asked any dealers if they'll sell the bodies for you on commision? No party then has to take a risk, you, the dealer or the buyer.

I think I've nothing to lose waiting a year - if the DSLR prices remain as high as they are relative to film it'll make no difference. I wasn't originally looking to find a DSLR that will match the 9 but I find myself envying other people's kit (but that's without seeing their prints, and that's the bit I like best!)
I will be carrying on with the 5 or even the 7 if I can manage it - and consider PX-ing the 9, if possible
