    I found my winter film...

Now that days are getting shorter again and nights longer, light starts getting dimmer I started planning ahead for what kind of film to stock up. I have just seen some high-res samples of Ilford Delta 3200 120 on Flickr and I was totally sold on it! Talk about smooth grain! I had never seen samples from it to be honest, so I was pleasantly surprise that I won't be very constrained by light anymore during winter (using film that is). I definately want to get my hands on some. I love the grain on it (or lack there of) for it's speed.
    Just thought I would share.
    Regards,

I haven't tried it yet, but it has tempted me for use in my Brownie (6x9). At that size the grain would be minimal when scanned.

Do you know the website Filmdev? They also have a Flickr group. It's a great database of different film/dev combinations, and it shows the variety of results obtainable. Link for Delta 3200 below.

Grain will of course depend on developer combinations. Delta 3200 is a film which requires plenty of experimentation, and it will reward in spades. It's not as easy to expose and develop as, say, FP4 or Kodak Tri-X.

Ilford DDX, althogh an expensive developer, has been cited as a very good match for Delta 3200, although I have no presonal experience with it.

I would like to experiment with other developers too,but DD-X has been my all round developer. DD-X tends to give me very good results with all my fav films (Neopan 1600,Tri-X,Acros). I used D-76 but gave it up in favour of DD-X as it has been a safe bet for all my films. But I would sure like to try Rodinal and Microphen when I push films.

This is almost certainly a stupid question, but what are you thinking of doing with 3200 in a Brownie? It's got to be very low light levels, but other than that I'm lost. Just curious really - I rely on Delta 100 when I'm using mine (roll on the darkroom...).

    Thanks,

Exactly, low light. Night time shots, using the regular shutter speed rather than T.

Oh dear... something else that sounds so fun I have to try!

Thanks - hopefully will be set up by spring, and be able to use the Brownies at a resonable cost again.

For 800 and 1600 you might also want to try the new Tmax.

Here is my result at 800

Likewise - thinking of putting it in the 1913 Kodak and wandering round the Steampunk exhibition - must go check the light levels! Oh, and whether I can develop it myself...
