Took a film to Jessies the other day, a 36 roll at 7x5, one hour, a tenner!!
and no free film anymore!
No wonder everyone's gone digital!
I cant really affird to use my film camera anymore, and that makes me unhappy!

Theres defiantly always a free film with processing! Go back!
Oh I'm not bothered about a free film. I still got two more to process plus one in the other Canon, and I won't be using film that much now. If I do use film I'd rather pay and get a quality film rather than some cheap leftover.I mean, if you're gonna pay for processing you might as well process quality film right?Theres defiantly always a free film with processing! Negotiate a discount to not have the free film - the place I use knocks a quid off the D&P. Probably worth just going for 6x4 prints as well - and being a bit patient; the 2 day service from Jessops is from £5.99 for a 36 exposure film while 7x5 prints are from £7.99. Not only will that save a couple of quid per roll but you'll also get closer to the full picture you took - a 7x5 print will be missing a 1/4 inch off each end on the long side on top of the normal cropping they do to fill the paper.

It is cheaper to process it yourself and even cheaper to go Medium Format these days. The film is cheaper (OK you only get 12 to 24 shots) and for what you pay for the chemistry it is worth it, even more so if you can store it. I have scratched Jessops of my list of high street processors long time ago, when I realised what they do to my negs. I used to think it was inevitable to have scratches on negs. Then I started using different processors and even though I still got scratches they weren't as bad. Then I decided to start doing it myself and I have near to zero scratches when I do them!
Someone mention medium format..... mmmmmm, oh yesssssss !

You need to go to boots, I paid £7.50 for 9x6 36exp next day, with second set for £1.50 (half price offer, usually £3).Took a film to Jessies the other day, a 36 roll at 7x5, one hour, a tenner!!
I have yet to find anywhere in the high street I can get 36 digital prints cheaper than 36exp film & prints!
Photography has traditionally been an expensive hobby. You either decide you're willing to bear those costs, or you find another hobby.
Here in the U.S., we also pay higher costs, and I've taken to processing my own color transparency film, because I'm having a difficult time finding an E-6 processor nearby.
And as we all know, digital is no free ride, although long term, you do eliminate film and processing costs.

In Brentwood High Street ( Brentwood, England NOT Brentwood USA !) there is the 'New Pharmacy' Chemists and they still take in real Fillums for processing and the lab they use is SIGFOTO, part of Sigma Pharmatceuticals, and the results are A1, no scratches, no colour cast and cheep cheeper than Boots at £3-99 for 6x4 and £4-99 for 7x5 and a free Fuji 24 shot fillum !
Got COMPUTERISED at last and now Digitised but FILM still RULES!
Jessops is indeed at the high end of price. A mail order service will be cheaper. Bonusprint (who I haven't used) will do 36 exposures at 7x5 for £5.99 plus £1.50 P&P, which seems reasonable. If you have a Costco near you, I'd go there.

Last time I went to Jessops it was a tenner and they scratched the film up better than I have ever been able to. I normally use ADSA it's nearly half that price and they charge you less for every frame that doesn't come out that they don't print.
It's interesting that you say there is no free film any more, that plus the sudden near doubling of Ilford film prices to above the RRP (you know the guideline highest price a company thinks they can get for a product) tells me they are really trying to push out any remainders of there traditional market.

I've used Asda twice. Once was before I understood what flash sync speed was, and so every frame was only exposed on one side. They just told me there must be something wrong with the camera, and so didn't charge me at all.
The other time I'd tried doing star trails for the first time, and some other experimental stuff. As I didn't know if anything would come out, I just wanted the film developing, but no prints. I would scan the negs when I got home and then just get prints of anything that turned out well.
The local Kodak lab wanted £15 for this (2 rolls). Asda couldn't do it without the prints, but did both rolls and scanned them onto a CD for me for £4-something.
Go to Boots - they're brilliant! What you get for your money is first class. To cut costs you could maybe ask for dev only, then scan yourself (you can pick up a quality used epson scanner for less than £50) - plus, think about the long run, much cheaper than a 5D markII
And anyway, feel for me... I shoot 10x8 and at between £11-£15 per photograph (let alone developing costs) it most certainly isn't cheap!
I couldn't agree more. Their service is first class. I have been using them for several years, ever since I fell out with the man in the Kodak shop!
Well well,I never would have thought Boots would be worthy of consideration by you guys!! Might have to give em a go! We have 3 photo labs in Darlington. Jessies (no thanks),Darlington Camera Shop,small-independant,owners run Darlington Camera Club, and Klick which are ok for party snaps!
We have 2 Boots stores but never even gave them a second thought!

They only process XP2 type B+W in store - normal B+W films they send away.
About the blog, I started using Picasa earlier this year and thought that the collages function was a good way to show lots of prints at once. I must say I like some of your close-ups.
