SIRIUS 28-200mm 3.5-5.6 Licensed by Minolta

Anybody have any experience of this lens?

I have acquired one in mint condition that essentially cost me nothing. Looks like a version of the Vivitar 28-200 listed on Dyxum without the rubberised grip.

    Who were Sirius?

Is it worth having a play with it or selling on? I'm guessing with the proper licence from Minolta, Sony users would have no issues with this lens?

I'm trying to rid myself of ultrazooms as I think I take better pictures when working within parameters (setting aside lens IQ).

Sirius and Vivitar were both marketing organisations - neither actually made anything (except maybe some money). Sirius lenses were mainly Cosina and Vivitar had many suppliers - here is a listing.

As Frank says, they are nothing to write home about, I'd put them on a par (or maybe 2) below the likes of Sigma, Tokina and Tamron

    Thanks will sell it on.

Seems very well built but not sure if I could get used to the push pull zoom anyway.

Sounds very much like the one I have in Nikon fit.

Very heavy, very solidly built, lousy optics...

    Makes good door stop tho'...........

Ok got rid of it on Ebay. Didn't get a single bid with starting price of £40 and free P&P.
Relisted starting at 99p and £6.50 P&P and it sold for £40.25.

A nice sub to my original purchase. I now have myself a spare 7000i in good condition, a mint condition original leather case, mint 35-105 3.5-4.5 RS, and spare 3200i flash all for £36. A bargain if ever there was one.
