PF20XD
Well not the largest nor most pretty flash in the world, but still it has some bonuses.

1) It has manual power options of full power, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 and 1/32 as well as 3 auto flash firing modes.

2) Its very light both with and without batteries (2AAA) which is a great plus for my chosen use of this flash (macro work).

3) Battery life with the unit appears very good and the 2 AAA batteries give a good long usage before needing replacement

4) Whilst it has a built in wide angle panel (plastic basically) it does need some diffusion to break the light up from its smaller flash head - though lighting given is gernerally quite pleasing.

Onto the flashes auto flash firing modes, of which it has two; the first working of a master flash preflash and the second running without any preflash from a main unit (ergo manual flash power from that main unit). Testing inside both of these modes worked well, giving reliable results and recycle times.
However when taken outside and used in the brighter ambient light the flash refused to respond to both firing modes. Doing some research around flashes which fire off reflected light from another flash showed me that this is not an uncommon problem with such units. Its a setback and means that reliable flash setup with this unit relies on cables or wireless alternatives, but its not something that it loses out on when compared to many other 3rd party flashes in its same price bracket.

Sadly as yet I have not managed to test it working of a hotshoe cable with a second main flash unit, though I expect there to be no problem with this setup (basic hotshoe tests with the flash worked well).
