    Deer

Wasn't sure where to put this, so i put it here, as it is a question about location.

Where is the best place to take photos of deer. I'm not thinking of a precise place, but more general, e.g. the woods. I appreciate that it's a rather open ended question, but any advice would be greatly appreciated

I live in north somerset, in between Bristol and the mendips, which means the vast majority of deer would be roe.

I've looked online for advice, but all I can find is advice on how to shoot photos of deer that you have killed (ironically, shot), which i havve no desire to do.

Any help on location would be quite brilliantly appreciated!

If you have the time, take a flight from Bristol to Aberdeen or Glasgow and hire a car, the deer will find you

Any answers a bit more budget/accesible?

Sure, the scottish highlands are good, but my commitment levels aren't quite up to it...

Ah, well you never mentioned your budget and commitment earlier. Could you head East as far as Richmond Park?

If you're ever near Sevenoaks I can recommend Knole.
    Canon made me do it.

    Re: Deer

Can i go as far east as sevenoaks? To be brutally honest, no.

I'm too young to drive, so am really limited to bike.

There are woods not too far away, so whereabouts would be the best place to see deer, for now in a generic wood (i.e in a clearing)

    thanks

    Re: Deer

There's basic information on the British Deer Society website, or others if you Google "deer habitat".

I see Roe and Red deer quite a lot here in Devon, I'm out in remote parts of the countryside which helps. My advice would be to ask around locally for deer sightings or if you've seen deer yourself, return and wait under a camo net. Roe tend to be solitary most of the year, you'll often see areas of grass that have been flattened where they've spent time ruminating. Habitat is woodland, glades, grassland and farmland, they'll have a nibble at any fresh shoots.

Bob was drawn in by the thought of bagging an 'old dear'.
