Is there something that exists that senses movement and then releases the shutter automatically? I may be being a bit vague...
If theres is, what is it's technical name, where could i buy one and how much would it cost?

You're probably after a "Infra-red Trigger". No idea how much they are though.

Years and years ago I had a Yashica 230AF SLR and this had the facility you are seeking ...
"The Yashica 230-AF features a trap focus system which allows the shutter to trip as soon as the subject comes to the distance at which the lens has been focused beforehand."
In other words pre-focus on a defined point and when anything enters that area a shot is taken.
Maybe if you do a search using "trap focus" you'll come up with something digital that will do the same.

Can be used as a motion sensor.

The Pentax K20D, and I think the new K7D and older K10D, have trap focus. In other words pre-focus on a defined point and when anything enters that area a shot is taken.

However, the OP might not want to change DSLR systems just for that feature!![]()
