    Flashgun question-

I have a Fuji S2 Pro (Nikon-clone) and on a Minolta Maxxum 7000 that was given to me is an Albinar 923-AF hot-shoe attached flashgun.

Turns out the pins on the flashgun line up with Fuji contacts and so at 1/125 synch speed, the flash fires and from the few test shots I took in a darkened room, seems to expose properly.

So, not bad for free, but (and here is where my question comes in)

There are a number of manual switches on the back that I have no idea what to set them to, so I'm asking for some help.

On the lower left, is a switch that can be set to three different options "TTL", a red dot, and a blue dot. Since I presume TTL stands for Through The Lens, it makes sense to put it there, but maybe I'm wrong?

    In the middle, is a slider switch that has settings for "ASA/DIN", and a label for feet (3.5, 5, 7, 10, 14, 20, 30, 40, 60ft"
Just below that is the actual slider switch where f/stop (I presume) numbers are reversed, in other words 22 is under the 3.5, 16 under the 5, 11 under the 7, and so on

And just below the ASA/DIN ,arkings, are a red dot, and a blue dot, which have ranges on the feet markings.

I'm assuming (again correct me if I'm wrong) those are for manual settings, and if the switch is set to TTL, then it's set for "automatic dummy mode"

    Anyway, help/guidance is always appreciated!

    Cheers!

As the (4?) pins line up it seems that the flashgun is Nikon dedicated.

I thought that the S2 used D-TTL but if the flashgun is giving reasonable exposures then it must just be TTL (TTL-OTF). The red & blue settings are for non-TTL auto flash (there'll be a sensor on the front of the flashgun to measure light reflecting off the subject/scene during exposure).

    In the middle, is a slider switch that has settings for "ASA/DIN", and a label for feet (3.5, 5, 7, 10, 14, 20, 30, 40, 60ft"
This should only be needed for non-TTL auto flash, you'd set this to whatever ISO the camera is set to. At different ISO values you will notice the red & blue settings require differing apertures to be used (i.e. f/2.8 & f/5.6 for 100ISO but f/5.6 & f/11 for 400 ISO).

Just below that is the actual slider switch where f/stop (I presume) numbers are reversed, in other words 22 is under the 3.5, 16 under the 5, 11 under the 7, and so on
This is the distance range, it shows you how far the flash can 'reach' at whatever aperture the lens is set to.

And just below the ASA/DIN ,markings, are a red dot, and a blue dot, which have ranges on the feet markings.
This shows the ranges for the non-TTL auto flash settings.

I'm assuming (again correct me if I'm wrong) those are for manual settings, and if the switch is set to TTL, then it's set for "automatic dummy mode"
All the modes are, sort of, 'dummy' modes. It seems that the flashgun has no manual control at all.

    Re: Flashgun question-

Ah, thanks. I did notice it seems to only have one power output, and that's "too much".

Well, nothing lost on my end, it was free. Will continue to save up for a proper Nikon flashgun

    Thanks!
