    Too much green?

Hi, I'm quite pleased with this lens. How can I improve the look of this woodland shot?

Looks quite good as is-I might crop in a bit tighter as I am not sure the (very) out of focus greenery in the foreground is contributing to the picture

I love it! I might crop it a little as theyre very centralk, having said that the size does add to the 'peeping' style...

I think it needs a fix on the colour though - its quite cold and blue at the mo (although it could just be my monitor), so Id play with the colour balance and saturate it a little more.

I took the file to boots this afternoon on a SD card and asked them to print it at 15X10 just as it was. According to there "machine" it was a "poor" picture and would not produce a good print? Maybe the lack of colour/contrast?.

I told them to print it anyway.

    Looks wicked

Lens is an old Soligor 135mm (EFL of 270mm on the Oly e-510)

Id imagine they meant the file size, how big is it?

The file is 4MB, 3200X2400 uncropped from a 10MP sensor.
There were 3 files on the card, this one had a large red "!" over it.

If you printed at 300 ppi you'd get it to about 8 x 10 (inches). 240 ppi takes it to about 10 x 13 so they might say you were pushing it a bit, depends on the quality of the pic itself really. I doint know what the "!" means, youd have to read the manual.

    Re: Too much green?

That does look better ermintrude, what software are you using and what did you do with it?

I made an error above, the lens was in fact my Chinon 200mm f3.5 (£9 on eBay) so the Effective Focal length is in fact 400mm thats the reason for the shallow DOF.

Their "machine" indicated the file as being "suspect" before the print size had been chosen.

I used manual for the shot, perhaps it's slightly under exposed too.

    Re: Too much green?

That was in Photoshop, but it was only basic stuff, you could do it in any program. Just did Levels and Colour Balance, then a quick tweak of Saturation and a touch of contrast. Then sharpened and cropped it. Took about 2 mins.

The dof is not that shallow really, its just that the OOF grass is very close to your lens. At 400mm your dof will not be very shallow at all.

Thanks, I had a play myself with GIMP and I managed to get a very similar result.

    Cheers
