Don't you just love the NHS

when you take time out of work, drive 20 odd miles to a hospital that is closing down, both departments I visited closing tomorrow. Wait patiently while the xray person chats with the receptionists about how bored they are then calls you in. Then go off to the dept. you have the appointment with
, get seen pretty quickly but only to be told that he was just seeing me as a matter of procedure to keep the appointment figures looking good and that he cannot give me any advise on what will be done as he is a knee specialist and I was there to see a foot specialist!!!!!!!!!!!!! He even said he thought it was rude that they sent me all that way when my nearest hospital is less that half the distance I travelled today! So as it stands I now have to wait for another appointment and probably have to take more time.............ah well least I got my xray done!

I never let a GP send me anywhere and use the choose and book serive to pick the hospital I wish to use, which I might add is never in Lincolnshire where I live.

To be fair, I expect everyone was at the new hospital, except you

You only want it so you can say "What's a joint like this doing in a girl like you!"

I think they suggested titanium for the extra stability during lightning strikes!

I was never given the option and never heard of this?

However had I been given the choice I would have chosen the hospital I went to because waiting time has always been minimal, but only of course if I was to see a consultant I should have seen!

I did ask was I the last ever to be xrayed which he replied I might well be!

Shame to see it close Royal Haslar Gosport, great little hospital!

Ah, the undead and lightning - there will be an Igor around somewhere
I thought that Haslar was a Naval hospital - don't tell me that all that expertise is going?

Fraid so Peter, NHS took over.....

They've turned Queeen Alexandra into a massive hospital helipad 'n all (got a photograph going up in there too ) so of course smaller hospitals have suffered. St Richards vastly downsized and Haslar going.

Re: Don't you just love the NHS

Well done on the snap Tanya, I have some of mine (colour, oh the shame of it!) up in the foyer of our local hospital.
I knew one or two folk there in the past from my time in the 'barmy army - (TA) and their expertise in battle injury was second to none. I also lived for a while in a little village called Calmore on the edge of the New Forest - beautiful, tranquil place at the time and worked at a small hospital called Tatchbury Mount - long gone I fear.
Progress, shmogress, we have gone to the dogs.
I am sorry that your experience has been poor. I cannot understand why you didn't see your nominated consultant or at least his registrar for a first appointment. That should be a given.

I know just seems the oddest thing I've ever come across, my work colleague said I should complain. Not sure this would do any good though but I might get in touch with my GP and let her know what happened!
