Fed 4 with Industar-61& KMZ Universal Turret Finder question...

    Hi all,

I got myself a Fed4 with an Industar-61 53mm lens. I have the KMZ turret finder that I used on my Zorki, but since my Zorki has an autograph I stopped using it, hence getting the Fed.
Now I tried the finder on it and I know the finder is only for a 50mm lens, but I am sure that the difference is minimal between 50 and 53mm and a search on the net actually found that the Jupiter-8 with which I used to use my Universal turret finder is closer to 52mm, so it shouldn't be a problem.
But when I use it on the Fed, the view through the viewfinder and the view through the turret finder seems to be noticeably different.
So I have two questions. To what lens is the viewfinder on the Fed4 matched to and can the universal turret finder be used on the Fed4?

    Thanks guys,
    Regards,

    Luis

I do, and I've never noticed a problem.

    Hi Nick,

    Thanks for your reply.
Looking through again, it seems as if there's some parallax problem. But it may be that I'm just not used to the Fed4's viewfinder. It also has a smaller rangefinder patch than the Zorki.

The KMZ turret finders came in left and right hand orientated versions (in regard to the placing of the shoe mount). The left orientated version was designed for the Zorki type cameras and the right orientated version for Kiev cameras. Could this be your problem?

HA! Yes, that might be it, mine is left oriented. I put a roll of process paid Sensia in it and I will se what comes out, I'll try shooting with and without the finder.
I have to say though, I like the Zorki best for handling already, which is funny as I tend to like my cameras bigger and heavier rather than the other way.

...but then again, they are both M39 cameras, that is the Zorki and the Fed...so I am assuming they should both be left handed...I find it so confusing, because with the Zorki I had the accurate view, I could see that I was looking through to the same thing but using the turret finder I wasn't getting the cropping. With the Fed, it seems there is some kind of parallax.

I find the viewfinder on my Zorki 4 (C) to be wider than that of it's Jupiter 8 by quite a bit, closer in fact to the AOV of a 35mm lens, and not level by a good few degrees, but that is a different story.

I guess it's something I'll have to get used to. Today I made sure that it was well fitted in (the finder) but I still feel that the view is a bit too narrow. I also bought a roll of Pan F to try on, the first roll of Pan F I ever bought!
