    What do you

.......think of this proposal by the Gov. of making everyone who has a fixed line at home, pay £6 a year towards the cost of covering the country with high speed broadband service???
My mother, who is in her eighties, thinks that this is just another tax on us. She has no interest in computers and will never use one but she will have to contribute towards this (errr ahem) scheme. I think that a lot of elderly people will feel the same.
I have broadband which I'm happy to pay for. Shirley the ISPs should pay for this out of their profits, make the shareholders stump up for it.

I agree Ray, only BB users should pay and that should be through the ISP's. I don't mind paying to help others gain access, as long as they are working and paying HMRC their dues - i.e No wasters.

Life, is only as complicated, or as serious, as you want it to be - your choice.

I must admit I thought that my £15 per month was to pay for the broadband, and that if I wanted better, it was up to me to pay for it. Conversely, if I decide I don't want it, I wouldn't have to pay for it.

What grates is that we were unable to get broadband for a while, as our exchange was late in being upgraded. Will the charge apply to those who are geographically unable to see the benefits?
