Oh well, that was short and sweet...

Discharged this afternoon with Harry Hip inserted successfully last Friday morning. Trying desperately to get XRay pics which looked very good indeed but really struggling to fight through rules and regs.
Mobility pretty good on crutches but getting in and out of cars a problem for now. New techniques in pain control have worked impressively well and although it currently looks like I am suffering from fat leg and fat foot disease there really isn't any major discomfort to witter about.
Just wanted to let everyone who crossed their fingers know that it is now time to untwist them and to say thank you for the good wishes received prior to admission.
Not in a great deal of pain but really, really knackered so I am off up the wooden hills for tonight - assuming I can remember the step/crutch/step sequence practised with the physio over the past couple of days.

My neighbour in Germany broke her leg and now has a new hip. She was then sent to a clinic for three weeks so she can get special physio & stuff. Are you saying that in the UK they just send you home?

    PS: Glad it went well.

Glad that all went well. Do you know if you got the cemented hip or the other sort (forgotten the name)

Minimal hospital time for everything. Seems that one of the biggest issues with the instalation of these new joints is the the joints seaze up if they are not kept moving...so get up and get on with it! Physiotherapy is provided...though mainly through the medium of an A4 photocopy!

Good man - excellent news! I can recommend retail therapy as a great aid to recovery - perhaps the purchase of a big fat lens (upwards of 200mm with a max aperture of no less than f2.8) to go with your big fat leg!

That's standard - my wife was out after 5 days, it would have been 7 but she made good progress. In fact she was only too glad to be home, of course her mobility was way down at first and she had to be lifted up and down for a while so it would have been impractical if I was in the same state.

Glad to hear you got the job done this time Peter and that all is well! Keep at the physio and no lying around telling Sandra to peel you another grape!

Aye, good to see you back Peter. I hope the nurses were not too hard on you - [thinks]maybe that's why they chucked him out early[/thinks]

    well done

I take it that it was done under local anaesthetic.
People are up and about so much quicker. when they do not have to recover from being half poisoned by a general anaesthetic

Were you under general anaesthetic? My gran had her hip done with just an epidural!

Crutch? Pah! A true traditionalist would eschew such dumbing down.

Glad it's all gone swimmingly so far, Peter!
