    Heatwave - it's official

Just wondering how much of the over heating problems expected by the authorities will be due to our not finding the security keys to locked windows.

30 minutes ago, it was several degrees cooler outside than in, so I've found the key and opened 2 downstairs windows hoping that convection will help cool the house before it really starts heating up later on. Having been burgled twice, it's something I do very rarely. Is this why people live in gated communities?

If its warmer inside than out already your house must have poor insultation. My home is about 5 deg cooler inside than out at the moment.

You need to close the windows and blinds at around 11 am to keep the house cool and the heat out then open everything up around 6 pm to get the cooler air into the dwelling.

To keep my place cooler, I open the windows but close the curtains.
I lived in Lewisham years ago (I do not recommend it) and was also burgled and it really does knock you for a six doesn't it.

Im lucky that the area I am in now is a better community.

Living in a Victorian end of terrace,it`s always cooler inside in summer.I suppose it must be the thickness of the walls.I do open windows for fresh air though.

I don't 'do' heat. I love the sun, but start to suffer at anything above 20c...... So last night, when it was so muggy I caved and went to Currys:

For the cheapest one they had. Kicking myself, as nearly got one in Tesco a couple of months ago for £50, but when I went back they'd sold out.

Despite what Metcheck claims, it is now raining in the sunny south, not a thunder storm, just light rain, but enough to make you think twice about going out.

It takes twice as much energy and therefore twice the cost, to cool an area as it does heat it.

I'll send you to Singapore, that will sort you out. Put a shirt on and it can be wet with sweat in 10 mins.

It's Summer! It gets hot in Summer! Just think of our gals and guys in Helmand Province in their body armour, helmets etc etc. Now that's what I'd call hot
