Boringly enough, coloured filters for B&W film photography would be my pick - would hate to be without them.

A pocket-size torch when shooting late (or very early!!! Although that does not seem to happen quite so often, funnily enough! ). It helps with finding things in the hold-all, or helps with setting aperture/speed rings on fully manual lenses.

Other than that, in the daytime, I'd say maybe a sleeveless jacket with loads of pockets to fit the essentials (additional lens, filter kit, flashgun, flash cards or rolls of film, hoods, etc.). When I don't want to be carrying a backpack, the jacket comes in handy.

Having read the supplement, I've remembered one thing that did make shooting a lot better in one aspect at least and using the gizmo saved a fair amount of time in PP. The Seculine digital level. Yes, some people swear by their hotshoe mounted spirit levels - I still have a couple but they're naff all use if you're shooting hand held and what they consider level may not be - check yours against a known level! The Seciline thing can be seen while the camera's to the eye and can be micro adjusted if it needs it.

The only problem with the thing is that it's now redundant - the D700 has a level built in, so sloping horizons are a thing of the past even without the Seculine doohickey.

ND grads and a polariser are the things I always have with me. Indispensible? Probably not but extremely useful. Next would be a tripod. Other than that there's nothing else I feel that 'enhances' my photography.

I think the non-photographic items for personal comfort outweigh the photographic items.

Non-photographic:

- A hat. I can pretend to be Indiana Jones, but it also keeps the sun off my head and rain off my glasses.
- A good quality, comfortable pair of boots. Look after your feet and they'll after you
- A pair of knee pads, I've abused my knees over the years and they can get quite painful now. I seem to kneel a lot for photography, especially macro work, so need the protection.
- A bottle of water. If I'm sweating like a glass-blower's crack, then I need to replace it.

Photographic:

- Wildlife Watching Supplies camo, waterproof lens covers for the 400mm and 180mm macro. Does what it says on the tin.
- LensCoat Hoodie lens caps. Allow the lens hood to remain in place.
- LensPens and Rocket Blower. I've only recently started using LensPens after a demo at Focus this year, I'm very pleased with the results.
- LowePro Rover AWII backpack, for me as close as it comes to the ideal camera bag.

Some sort of bag or case, if only to protect the camera and lens. Other than that, (presuming batteries and memory cards are consumables and not accessories) nothing else is essential, but plenty make photography a richer experience.
