The persecution of photographers becasue of "security risks" is getting out of hand now. Why do so many people appear to feel threatened when photos are taken of buildings, building sites or general streetlife?
Too many cameras, too many lenses.......

its quite simple, Olympic bosses, the guy was on a public highway, he can do what he wants, security guards have no powers at all. I am going down in a few weeks, and I will take photos, I will be off their land and expect no interaction from them. If approached and threatened like the above, I have one course of action, I will be using my citizens power of arrest and pressing charges.

your choice olympic, people operate within in the law or shut up and listen.

Utter RUBBISH ! If any private security questioned me I'd not even bother to say hello, let alone answer questions. Perhaps I might call the police claiming to be harrased by said party. Who knows, the person in question might well end up in court like our dear Greek friend.

Olympic bosses keep you noses out of matters outside of your authority unless you want them broken (In the nicest possible way) lol

I've just e mailed the Home Secretary , Alan Johnson about this incident asking if he thinks it's okay for private security to harass such people on the public highway engaged in legal behaviour.

Anyone who want's to do the same :-

I would have thought that the biggest threat to the Olympics would be unofficial strikes among construction workers.

No, the biggest threat would be a total ban of photography and other media of the Olympics by the photographers and cameramen.

She told us: 'Filming and photography of the site from public highways and areas around the Olympic Park is permitted. However our security guard team reserve the right to talk to anyone they believe may be taking photos or footage of any security operations. This is part of the ODA's responsibility to ensure the safety and security of the Olympic Park.'
Again that phrase that empowers themselves to do what they want.

I think that all this is about selling rights to make images and lots and lots of money. BBC versus Skye. At least Setanta aren't in the running.

A tube strike is all it will take, especially if they can get the busses out at the same time

I'm pretty sure that all the TV and Press rights have already been sold-off to the highest bidders.

BTW - Isn't the land still owned by the British public?

    [/QUOTE]

The land is only owned by us the public, indirectly, it is their private property for all intents and purposes; that is till new ownership is established after the games.

The roads and pathways passing through are public.

    What a load of codsdwallop!

Judging by my own and friends' experience of the filth and their ill formed appreciation of Internet technology someone's suggested that titbit to them, and their running with it - hook, line and sinker!
