    Advice on buying memory cards

Hi there, i have just got my 1st DSLR, Canon EOS 400D, and i am finding i am taking more pictures than i expected at first. I want to buy a new memory card for my camera as i can't bring myself to delete most of the pictures, but i haven't got a clue what kind of memory card is would be best for me. I would welcome any advice and possibly any sites/ shops that you would recommend me buying from.

Firstly, copy the photos to your computer. There is no way you'll be able to keep all your images on memory cards!

Then, go to either 7day Shop or MyMemory to buy your cards as they are two of the cheapest places out there.

Personally I tend to use with SanDisk or Lexar cards.

after having a cheap card fail on me, I now stick to SanDisk cards and back up images to a netbook on a daily basis. I keep the images on the card as well.

Like Fen, I buy from 7dayshop and would advise avoiding e-bay as a source of cards; too many fakes there.

SanDisk and MyMemory get my vote...although I do only have one card from which all the photos are moved to my computer at the end of a day's shooting. Never had a need to buy another one...although there is something to be said for having a backup I suppose.

I'm not sure why you aren't copying the pictures from your current memory card onto your computer... assuming you have one? If so, but you don't have the lead that allows the computer to connect to the camera and grab the photos, you can buy cheap, but perfectly good, card readers from any of the suppliers mentioned above. Mine cost £3.95, plugs into a USB port and transfers the images very quickly. If you don't have a computer, get a friend or a high street shop to do this for you and burn them onto a CD. That way you can build up your photo collection and get prints made any time you want.

Apologies if this is stuff you've already got covered, but it confused me that you don't seem to be doing this.

Re: Advice on buying memory cards

Recently at work I was asked to recover some pictures from a corrupted card, which I managed to do. Someone else spotted me doing this and asked me how to get her pictures onto a computer. After I'd spent a minute explaining I thought that I'd do better with a practical demonstration so I got her to bring her camera in. When I downloaded the pictures I found that there were hundreds of them taken over a period of several years.

I suspect that there are people (possibly not the op) who don't download or print their pictures but just use their cameras for taking pictures which they then show people on the rear display.

I use MyMemory and 7dayshop, SanDisk and Kingston, never had a problem with any of them.
