I`d been thinking about scanning my slides to PC when it dawned on me my Pixma MP510 won`t do it
I did try one but no good.Shall I get a budget slide scanner? The results will probably disappoint,or am I wrong? Any opinions welcome.
Cheers

My local Tescos Extra had a flat bed scanner with a back illumination slot in the lid, and probably good for 4 2"x2" slides, or a strip of 6 negatives. Worth checking on the details. Price, from memory, was ~ £80. (Can't remember the make.)
If you're not doing many, that's probably as much as it's worth paying. Or consider one of the all-in-one printer/scanner combos, but check that the lid has the illumination slot. (It could be hidden behind a removable white faced board.)
Some flatbed scanners can now rival dedicated film scanners - which seem to be disappearing from the shops.

Or you could do what my Dad did. Bought a slide scanner from an auction site, spent weeks scanning them, then sold it back on the auction site for just a little less than he paid for it

Nights were a real drag, thankfully work's on 2 shifts now [day/back] so more time to do things... If only photography were higher up the pecking order ;-)

Get yourself an Epson 4490, £150 that you won't regret for sure!
The big question is - how many slides?
If you are up in the high hundreds or even thousands it will pay you to set a year aside and buy a good film/slide scanner. New, you are looking at the Nikon Coolscan; or secondhand, Nikon or Minolta.
They are set up to give the very best from your work and will, if used properly, knock the socks off any flatbed.
Your other alternative of course is to select the best of your slides and take them to a Pro lab for scanning to CD.
