We've just uploaded some image samples from the new Sony A380. All images were shot at the highest quality JPEG settings, with the new 18-55mm kit lens. A full review will follow shortly.

Will you be conducting the review in conjunction with the A330, or will it just be the A380 ?.
Yes, I have both cameras so I'm testing them together.
Thats great, thanks Matt.
Well I don't know the name of the yellow flower but it is awful to be honest. The rest are very good indeed and for a kit lens - excellent. If I was in the market for new kit I would be looking long and hard at this system. Thank you for posting them, far easier for folk to make their minds up after seeing the results than attempting to work through a written report.![]()

Although I'm waiting for the A700's replacement I am curious as to see if Sony has addressed it's achilles heal (noise control)with the new models coming out, if the anti-dust feature has improved, if the new kit lens brings out the best in all 3 models, (the A350's kit lens was'nt it's best feature) and whether DOF preview and mirror lock up have made a return.
Unless I'm mistaken, there is no mirror lock up and no depth of field preview on either the A330 or A380. The kit lens is a little noisy but pretty fast to bring subjects into focus. I'll have a better idea of its performance once I've had a chance to look at all the images I've taken with it. Overall I'd say there are some very positive things about each camera.
Matt
But is it worth buying the A380 over the A350? Given the also the price?
Personally I'm interested to see; if there is a significant & postive improvement over the outgoing models, whether they are actually any better than the A350 etc, what new tech Sony have added, if any (e.g HX1 panorama mode), if as previously mentioned; Noise control, currently dominated by the big two has been addressed, and whether the new kit lens is actually better than the current one, if so it'll gives me great optimism for the biggy (A700's replacement).
A genuine question - not trying to be smart or carping.Well I don't know the name of the yellow flower but it is awful to be honest. The rest are very good indeed and for a kit lens - excellent. Is it really possible to tell anything useful from these pictures? We don't know if they have been cropped or altered (it seems pretty well certain they have been downsized)and they are showing at pretty small size on hundreds of different monitors.
I know that I'm no expert at this lens 'testing' game but the above seems about as far from science as one can get!
To broaden the question. Is it ever possible to see differences between lenses over the net? I suppose if absolutely unadulterated files are posted it may be. I'd quite like a tutorial on viewing such tests on screen.

I don't quite understand... They are full size images, which you can see from the resolution (3056x4592 for example) when you open one up. They are scaled to fit the screen when they are loaded (which is standard) but a little magnifying icon comes up as soon as you hover over the picture, giving you the full size file. Doesn't this happen for you? They have not been downsized or altered.

I had completely missed the 'magnifying icon'and was looking at the first picture on screen. The properties for that said 570x379 pixels and file size 92.85kb - hence my comments.
Sorry again.

Maybe you don't need to use a magnifying glass![]()

Just bought the latest edition of WDC (first one for quite a while) and I like the honest and in-depth A380/A330 Reviews.
Sadly as expected it looks as if Sony have just made prettier versions of 2 already excellent cameras, the new lens also looks as if it's failed to improve on the current kit lens, which IMHO has'nt done any of the Alpha's any favours.
In addition to WDC I've read another online review & Improved noise control, especially in the A330 would seem to indicate that Sony's finally making efforts to catch Canon and Nikon, when it comes to silky smooth images.
The review also flags up something that i've personally been keen to know; was the A350 really any better and worth the extra over the A300?, going on the review for the A380/A330 it's very clear which one stands out.
Is there really any point of having 3 cameras instead of just 2: a cheap one and a more expensive high spec one & why restrict the better value for money Camera to a retailer that's not the most popular & cheapest on the high street ?.
Hopefully the next batch of new Alpha's will give the other manufacturers cause for concern ?.
Am i the only one that thinks it's strange that the A700 is still going strong after so many other alphas have come and gone ?.
