I had a chance (on Friday) to play with the K7 and BP/VG ....

It looks nice (nobody gives a ratsas), body feels good and feels even better w/ grip (people should and do give a ratsas), grip takes the Lithium-Ion battery (good thing)

and six(6) AA type batteries.. STUPID, STUPID, STUPID .. make it four(4) or eight(8)

    Cheers,

    Jack

Why on earth does this matter (presumably it's to achieve a certain voltage)? Just because AAs usually come in 4s? Hardly the most earth-shatteringly important issue, is it?

No, but I can see Jack's point. Most chargers charge four AA's, so you'll either need a bigger charger (and not use two slots), use two chargers (takes up two sockets) or charge in two goes. Any one of those can ba a real pain depending on your cicumstances.

Some people are upset by North Korea's nuclear testing, some people are upset with the turmoil
in Iran, some people are angst ridden with the symbol for the (forthcoming) London Olympics but,
for me, it's the AA battery situation with the K7

    It does seem odd.

Are there any flashguns that use 6 AAs?

The Nikon SB-800 comes with a little holder for an additional AA battery which means that it will take five in total if you want/need the faster recycling time. Personally the faff required to keep an extra battery charged isn't worth it.

    K-7 size

This really puts into perspective how dinky it is. Mmm. Imagine it with a set of 15mm, 31mm, and 70mm lenses.

What with this and the EP-1, I'm really wanting to win the lottery sometime soon. Better buy a ticket...

Get in the queue behind me then! I want an EP-1, I could do with a 70-200mm f:2.8 and then I want to upgrade my D300 to a D700.

Easy answer, buy eight batteries and throw two away.
You can see I'm not in the Green party......

I am now thinking I would like some studio lights and a ring flash.....

    Hi Mark,

I remember when cameras didn't need batteries
I still have three(3) cameras that don't need batteries to operate and
one(1) that doesn't even have a space for a battery mainly because it
    doesn't have a meter

Of course, I haven't used them since going digital way back in Sept 2002

    Cheers,

    Jack

I have just got back from Fuji a roll of Trannies I took with the Z1-p. It was a week in coming, not bad really, but I had forgotten what was on the beggining of the film. There is no exif data. The slides are a pain to scan. All in all, not a patch on the digital experience.

Very sad really, as I love the handling and feel of the Z1-p, but I do not think it will see the light of day much more.

Digital is the only really flexible, spontaneous solution to my photography now.
