Digital help

Hi im looking at getting a new digital camera, my current one when i take a picture it takes a second or so for the image to take, which means if i am trying to get a picture of something moving i miss it. What sort of camera am i looking for? i have been lookings at the Olympus Stylus 9000. Could anyone tell me what this is like? Thanks

You'll have to plough through all the reviews and take note of the shutter lag times - the shorter the better of course. You may like to consider getting a dSLR any of which do not suffer from this problem. It's actually caused but the camera having to measure exposure and focus before firing the shutter.

With your current camera it will help if you set-up the shot by half-pressing the shutter button and then keep half pressed until the right moment then press fully down to take the photo.

Yes the term is shutter lag and many compact cameras suffer from this although they are improving in this respect. I can't give specific help as I don't use one but WDC has some reviews here or you could try here and compare several cameras that you short-list.

I've found a review here where they measure the lag. 0.7s! Along with soft images...

There's a good reason why many of us are prepared to lug around a relatively heavy DSLR and some lenses.

I remember my good old Dimage 7 took a couple of seconds to focus and then another couple of seconds to take the picture and was ready again 30 seconds thereafter. Probably wasn't that long but it seemed to be.
