    EOS 1Ds duplicate file numbers

I'm using a pair of EOS 1Ds bodies (the 'Mk 1') and at some point the file numbers are going to start overlapping. Is there any way to set them up so that one body would automatically produce file numbers starting or ending with an 'A' and the other with a 'B'?

I'm open to any other suggestions on this too.

Alan, Downloader Pro 2.2 allows you to register each body with software and then suffix each filename accordinglingly. The filenames for my two 40Ds are now 100_1234_1 or 100_1234_2.

Yes, another vote for Downloader Pro. An excellent piece of software.
Getting it to do precisely what you want it to do, in areas that you haven't yet tested, can be a bit tricky! Helps if you've done some programming.

Names surely should never coincide, from memory the mark I file names are three/four unique letters followed by the numeric value (three if shooting Adobe, as file names then begin with _)

Burgy's quite right. By default the 1 series names files as IMG_0001 and _MG_0001 if shooting in AdobeRGB (at least my 1dIIN does). You can set your own 3 letter prefix so each camera can be different.

    How do you do this?

It's a menu option on the 1d. On the 'tools' menu there is an option called 'image file naming' with a sub-option to change the prefix letters.

Downloader Pro is your answer or similar software - I think Photo Mechanic has a similar though not so comprehensive function. But if you must get my with the bodies software try resetting one of them manually to zero. Then on the reset body the 1st image might be IMG-0001 and the next image on the unreset body might be for example IMG-4876

As far as I recall both bodies woiuld prefix with IMG if you shoot sRGB and _MG if you shoot adobeRGB1998

Once you got to 9999 they would roll round to 0001 but ask you first.
